Know when Google stops showing a product that sells.

Each morning Adintel reads Google’s product status on every account that advertises products. A product with a conversion in the last 30 days that Google now will not show is an audit finding, with the issue in Google’s words; the nightly audit also counts the products your campaigns include that Google will not show, and checks your product groups and products.

A night’s audit on the demo account: Since yesterday’s check naming Google’s product status, then the Shopping and feed area’s findings.
What you see

Google’s product status, in Google’s words.

In the audit’s Shopping and feed area: the products Google will not show, counted issue by issue, product groups that bid every product the same, and products returning far less than the rest.

Issue by issueShow detail gives the counts behind the finding: the products your campaigns include, those Google will not show and those it limits, and how many of them sold.

Products against their peersA product returning half or less of what comparable products return is named, with its return beside theirs.
How it decides

Google’s status, read each morning, judged by rule.

A product that took at least one conversion in a running campaign over the last 30 days is a finding when Google says it cannot show in ads because of an issue that stops it showing, such as out of stock, a page Google cannot load or a policy issue. It is not one when its item is excluded in every product group of its campaign.

A second finding counts the products your campaigns include that Google cannot show, issue by issue in Google’s words, and names the issues that only limit products Google still shows. Products no campaign includes are left out of both.

The nightly audit also checks products and product trees: products that spent with no conversion, products returning half or less of comparable ones, trees that bid every product the same, and Shopping campaigns on one feed label at the same priority.

What you can do from it

  • See each night what changed in Google’s product status since the night before.
  • Exclude products that spent with no conversion from their campaign’s product groups, from the audit’s fix.
  • Change a Shopping campaign’s status, daily budget and target through the confirm.
  • Exclude Shopping search terms at the account, the campaign or a negative keyword list.

What it will not do

  • It never fixes a product: every issue is fixed in Merchant Center or on the site.
  • It reads what Google says about each product, not the feed itself.
  • It never judges spend by product group on Shopping, which Google does not report.
  • Google’s status can take up to a day to update, and so can Adintel’s read of it.
Questions

Questions about Shopping and the feed

What counts as a product that sells?

One that took at least one conversion in a running campaign over the last 30 days.

What if I excluded the product on purpose?

It is not a finding when its item is excluded in every product group of its campaign.

Does it cover Performance Max with a feed?

Yes. Product status is read on any account whose campaigns advertise products, Shopping or Performance Max, and the product tree checks read both.

What does Google’s recommendation to fix disapproved products add?

It is worth acting on, and its reason adds Adintel’s read of the products your campaigns include that Google will not show, and how many of them took a conversion.
