Shopping and the product feed
Google's product status read each morning, the products and product groups the audit checks, and what Adintel changes on a Shopping campaign.
What does Adintel read about the products?
On an account whose campaigns advertise products, Shopping or Performance Max with a feed, Google's product status is read each morning: whether Google can show each product in ads, and each issue Google names, with whether it stops the product showing or only limits it. A product that took a conversion in a running campaign over the last 30 days and that Google now will not show is an audit finding, with what it earned and the issue in Google's words; a second finding counts the products your campaigns include that Google will not show, issue by issue (how the audit decides). When either changes overnight, the nightly check says so under Since yesterday's check, with the cause Google's product status.
What does the audit check on products and product groups?
In the audit's Shopping & feed area, each night:
- Products that spent with no conversion where their spend would have bought at least three at what comparable products pay per conversion, the ten that spent most.
- Products that convert but return half or less of what comparable products return, on an account that tracks real conversion value.
- A product tree with no segmentation, every product in one group, on Shopping and Performance Max.
- On Performance Max, a segmented tree whose catch-all groups still carry 60% or more of its spend. Google gives no spend per product group on Shopping, so Shopping trees are not judged on it.
- Shopping campaigns that share a feed label and run at the same priority, so the priority decides nothing; and a Shopping campaign with no feed label where others in the account set one.
What can I change from Adintel?
A campaign's status, daily budget and target, through the confirm that checks the change with Google first. Products that spent with no conversion can be excluded from their campaign's product groups, from the audit's Fix from Adintel. Search terms from Shopping are on the search terms page's Search & Shopping tab: a negative goes to the account, the campaign or a negative keyword list, and a Shopping term cannot be added as a keyword (search terms). Google's recommendations to add sitelinks, callouts or call assets are dismissed by rule where 95% or more of a campaign's search spend went to product ads.
Where are the issues fixed?
In Merchant Center or on the site, never from Adintel: Adintel reads what Google says about each product through the Google Ads API, not the feed itself. An out-of-stock product shows again on its own once its feed says it is in stock. Google's recommendation to fix disapproved products is worth acting on, and its reason adds Adintel's read of the products your campaigns include that Google will not show, and how many of them took a conversion (recommendations). Google says its product status can take up to a day to update.
