Sharing a report or an audit

A link your client opens without signing in: a copy of a final client report or written audit report, frozen when made. The link expires, and you can turn it off.

What is a shared link?

A link to a copy of one final client report or written audit report, for your client to read without signing in. The copy is made when you make the link: the report or the audit as it is at that moment. Nothing that changes afterwards reaches it: not a newer final, not a later check, not a change in the account. Adintel never makes a link on its own and never sends one to anyone. You make it, copy it and send it yourself.

What can I share?

  • A final client report. Share by link appears on a report, above its summary, once you make it final; a draft cannot be shared. A period opens on its draft while it has one, so after Compose a new draft, pick the final from the account's reports to share it. A final that a newer one replaced cannot be shared again, and its links keep working until they expire or you turn them off.
  • A written audit report, one made with Write a report. Sharing one needs the business name (set on the client report page); on an account a team gave you, the team's owner sets it. The copy keeps the name and logo as they were when you made the link.
  • Not a nightly check: it is in Adintel's own words and made anew every night. On one, Share by link says so and points you to a written report.
  • Not an older written report that is not ready for a client: some written before Adintel gave every figure in the account's currency show a raw figure as Google stores it, and a few name Adintel. Share by link says why instead of offering a link; write a new report and share that one.

How do I make one?

In Share by link, choose how long it Works for: 7, 30 or 90 days, 90 if you leave it. Then choose Make a link. The link appears under Your link, with Copy beside it. Copy the link straight away: it is shown only this once, and Adintel keeps no copy, so it cannot be shown again. If you lose it, turn it off and make another. You can make several links to one report, for example one for each person you send it to, and turn each off on its own.

What does my client see?

The report or audit laid out as it prints, on a white page. At the top: the business name and logo, the day you made the link, the account, the title, and the period (for an audit, the day the account was checked). A client report shows its summary and the sections you did not hide; the lines meant only for you are left out. An audit shows the findings counted by severity, the quick wins, every finding under its area, and what the audit could not check; the fixes, your acknowledgements and what Show detail lists are left out. Print / Save PDF prints it, and the foot of the screen names the business that shared it and the day the link works until. Adintel is not named on the page, in its title or in its print. The address is on adintel.io, and the browser tab shows Adintel's icon.

How long does a link work?

Until it expires or you turn it off, whichever comes first. While your access is paused, it keeps working. It stops if the account's data is deleted from Adintel (when access ends). An expired link says This link has expired. and the day it stopped working. A link you turned off says This link has been turned off. A link copied only in part, or never made, says This link is not valid. None of these messages names you.

Has my client opened it?

In Share by link, each link says who made it and on which day, the day it works until, and how many times it was opened, with the first and the last time, or Not opened yet. Adintel keeps only that count and those two times, never who opened it, from where, or on what. Every opening counts, yours included. Some email services open links to check them before delivering the message, so a first opening may be that check rather than your client. A chat app's preview of the link is not counted.

How do I turn a link off?

Choose Turn off beside the link, then Turn it off to confirm. It stops working at once and for good: whoever opens it reads that it was turned off. It cannot be turned back on; make a new link instead. Anyone who can edit the account in Adintel can make a link or turn off any of its links, and the list shows who made each one and who turned it off. A viewer on the account sees no Share by link panel. When a teammate is removed from the team, the links they made on its accounts keep working until they expire, unless the team's owner turns them off when removing the teammate, or someone who can edit the account turns them off later (team seats).

How is it kept private?

The link carries a long random code that cannot be guessed. Adintel stores only a scrambled form of it that cannot be turned back into the link, which is why even Adintel cannot show it again. The code sits after the # in the link, a part browsers leave out of the address they send, so it never appears in the web addresses that servers and networks log; the page then hands it to Adintel privately to open the copy. What a link shows is never listed by search engines or kept in a cache. Anyone who has the link can read the copy, so send it only to the people it is for, and turn it off when it is no longer needed.
